HUNT THEMED MANTEL

This was my Christmas mantel, but all that has come down and been put away. I decided to pull out a few of my favorite doggies and go with the hunt theme. Who knew I would ever use antlers in decorating!LOL! Well be adventurous I say.

I love the dog print, it looks like my late beloved Katie. It is a Leo'n Dauchin  signed print that I bought at an estate sale-and that I got for a steal considering what they are really worth.
Isn't this a great candlestick? I think I paid more for these candlesticks and the urn that goes with them than I did for the print.
I can never get a good photo of my mantel without moving the dining room table and believe me I am not gonna do that! I have a large collection of china dogs and decided to pull a few out for this mantelscape. This mantel was bought at a junk shop in the Ms Delta-it weighs a ton-solid cypress. I took forever stripping layers of paint of and then decided since I couldnt get it all off to just repaint. I have it in the back of my mind to maybe get it sandblasted to get down to the real wood. I am joining Susan at http://www.betweennapsontheporch.blogspot.com  for Met Monday and Marty at http://astrollthrulife.blogspot.com  for Tabletop Tuesday.I am also joining http://www.gritsglamour.blogspot.com  for her Wild About Nature Party.

Love the dogs, the large picture looks like our English Pointer, Cumberland Queen Ann, was the best dog ever.

Love your hunt theme! I think it looks great! I love your mantle too...and cypress at that! I bet it would look great stripped too, and sandblasting would definitely get it to the bare wood. I had a piece that I stripped, and I thought I would never get the paint off, but the little bits that were left did not show when I finished it. There is just something about getting down to bare wood that I love!

I love how you change your decorations out so often! I keep my mantel the same all year with the exception of the month of December. To see it, you'd know we're duck-hunters from all the decorative decoys down to the carvings on the mantel itself.

You sure did a fun mantle, they always look so bear after the Christmas trim comes down. I am having fun with my new project. I hope you had a great New Years Eve! Richard from My Old Historic House.

I wanted to thank you for stopping by my blog, so nice to meet you! I've enjoyed reading your blog! I wanted to ask you about the "charger" in your banner. Not sure if that is what it is, since it looks like it has a nest-bowl attached. I love it! Do you know where I could get a couple? :) And yes, you do look too young to be a great grandmother!

Hi there, I really love your mantle. I'm sure it will look great if stripped to the bare wood, but I love it white. Also the dogs are great too. Thanks for sharing and Happy New Year. I have recently found your blog and am now following you, and will visit often. Please stop by my blog and perhaps you would like to follow me also. Have a wonderful day. Hugs, Chris

Your manel looks beautiful~~the mantel itself and how you have it arranged! The dogs, the painting and the candlesticks...what a nice combination. I am still tweaking mine after De~Christmasing everything yesterday. Wow, what a big job but my daughter did most of it.

I wanted to thank you for leaving such a sweet and flattering comment on my blog. Sometimes being sick can bring out your sense of humor! At least it did for me! I'm feeling much better now but still have a bit of a cough. Winter colds are hard to shake.

Welcome to 2012!!

XO,
Jane

You did a great job on the mantel, and I love how you have decorated it!
I keep family pics on the mantel, except for Cmas, so I am not very creative in that area!

Your mantel is beautiful.
I have been around antlers all my married life and, for the life of me, can't bring myself to use them in decorating. :)) Other people make them look good but mine just looks ..... weird. :))
