GYPSY ROYALTY

In Rosehill cemetary in Meridian,Mississippi you can visit the graves of the King and Queen of the Gypsies. I recently watched a show on A&E, I think it was. It was about the Travelers in Ireland. I think that must be the Irish name for Gypsies. It was about their wedding ceremonies. WHOO! You think a lot of detail is put into a Southern wedding? But of course I cannot tell you that there is any comparison to our weddings-you will just have to watch the show. One of the bride's had a dress so full and wide she had to be tugged down the aisle to even get to the altar-a Southern girls Mother would have dropped dead on the spot at this spectacle!

People leave offerings or rememberences on top of the graves.
I wonder why the top of the King's grave is not covered with stuff like the Queen's? I just love going on these odd little road trips! Since there are .com several shadows lurking amongst the tombstones I am joining http://www.heyharriet.blogspot.com  for Shadow Shot Sunday.

I visited the cemetery while we lived in Meridian - it was fascinating! I remember the variety of trinkets and offerings, and wondered what kinds of people left them there, and when... I don't think I ever saw many people in the cemetery all the times I drove by...

I thought of you last Sunday morning when I visited St. Alban's in Bovina, where there is an old, old cemetery at the church - I'm sure you would have gotten lots of beautiful pictures there. A huge tree with beautiful fragrant pink flowers was blooming right in the middle of it.

I have never heard of this tradition, but find it to be an interesting idea.
At one of our area Churches, the members of the church on a certain weekend in May, decorate the graves of their loved ones with shells. It is interesting to see.
Old cemetaries are interesting to visit. I have visited several in our area and enjoy seeing the different tombstones and reading the dates and such. Some in the park area, (Mammoth Cave Natonal Park), are so old that you can no longer read the dates or names.

Wherever I go, I visit cemeteries. Looks like this one should be on my list of must-sees!

I HAVE A LITTLE SHADOW

I have a little shadow that always follows me;
My shadow is my best friend, as anyone can see.

No matter where my feet go, my shadow’s always there—
Except, of course, at midnight with darkness everywhere!
