This is a statue of William Faulkner, one of the South's most important writers. He won the 1949 Nobel Prize for literature. This statue is by Mississippi artist Bill Beckwith-famous in his own right. It sits in front of City Hall in Oxford, where Faulkner lived and wrote.City Hall was once the Oxford Post Office, but maybe they should have put the statue in front of the old University Post Office. When Faulkner worked there he got fired for throwing away the mail instead of sorting it-or so the story goes. I am joining http://heyharriet.blogspot.com for Shadow Shot Sunday. And thanks for featuring my photo last week.

Mr. Faulkner, I have to confess that much of what you wrote is very difficult to understand, but I do enjoy seeing you frozen in a moment of time. THAT I understand!
SHADOW DITTY
Shadows of onyx, shadows of grey,
Shadows to chase my doldrums away;
Shadows each morning, shadows at night,
Shadows, O shadows, you’re my delight!

Nice shadow shot. Faulkner was evidently quite a guy!
That's a gorgeous statue. Sounds like he was kind of a character.

That's a cute tidbit about Faulkner...lol...Makes you realize he probably thought it was all junk mail.
I love the gently shadows behind Mr. Faulkner. I also love being from the South. :)
