HISTORY AND MYSTERY IN ODD PLACES

Well, I am going to share a story today with photos. Now most everybody knows I love to photograph old cemetaries. On a recent trip I found this amazing headstone, now look closely at the dates this ladies children were born. Some of these children were just three months old when she got pregnant again-aren't you glad somebody invented birth control? And she had a set of twins in there too. But sadly she died the month after her 19th child was born-actually she probably had this one the last day or so of November and died a day or so later. Poor thing, that is too much for anybody. Women had a hard life then didn't they. Makes you wonder why we whine and complain. Don't you wonder who raised those children?  Cemetaries are fascinating places full of history and mystery!

WOW! she must have been sixteen when she got married!
What I'm thinking is that the babies that are not named probably died at birth "baby boy" and two "infant son". I wonder if she died of exhaustion? we sure have it easy now.

I can't imagine having that many babies and having them for so many years especially without any of todays conveniences! That is so sad.

So often we hear such stories of people of the past. They were amazing and endured so much. My Mother had 7 children and they were all borned at home, I was the last. She was an amazing woman and worked so hard to cook, clean, wash, and raise as all. I can relate, but no one can even begin to know the pain. They are right, she is with the Angles! Thanks for sharing. Richard at My Old historic House.

Oh my! Obviously breast-feeding wasn't a good form of birth control for her! (or maybe she had a wet nurse?)

THIS POST SHOULD MAKE ALL TODAYS LADIES HAPPY WE ARE ALIVE AND SMILING THIS DAY AN AGE. I WORKED WITH A GIRL WHO WAS THE OLDEST OF 23. SHE ENDED UP HAVING TO RAISE MOST OF THE SIBLINGS AFTER HER MOTHER DIED. WE WANT EVEN MENTION HER FATHER. PEACE

I agree that the poor lady probably died for exhaustion. Carring and birthing 19 babies is a lot of trauma for the body to endure.

My father-in-law was #13. He and his twin brother were named Y & Z because his mother said "no more". Y did not survive. And my sweet father-in-law who is now gone was always Zee.

I love visiting cemeteries as well.
This was quite a lady...if I calculated correctly she was only 46 when she died. That is a lot of children in a short time!
