This is a statue of William Faulkner, one of the South's most important writers. He won the 1949 Nobel Prize for literature. This statue is by Mississippi artist Bill Beckwith-famous in his own right. It sits in front of City Hall in Oxford, where Faulkner lived and wrote.City Hall was once the Oxford Post Office, but maybe they should have put the statue in front of the old University Post Office. Mr. Faulkner, I have to confess that much of what you wrote is very difficult to understand, but I do enjoy seeing you frozen in a moment of time. THAT I understand!
